Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After her father died as a Carnival barker at the age of a young girl and she was forced to support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth lived in the tenement area of poverty of Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended school. She quit the institution she was in after only two years in order to pursue the profession of acting. It was a difficult path to take. Even though she got an opportunity as a hat check girl in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs came her way. Following a short stint as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go to her home in Massachusetts and leave her position. She made the ends meet by working by working as an usher in the morning, while at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She earned a bachelor's certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
